What Are Composite Veneers?

Composite veneers are thin layers of tooth-colored resin, the same family of material as a white filling, sculpted directly onto the front of your teeth. Each layer is shaped by hand, hardened with a special light and polished, so the veneer is finished in the chair.

They change the color, shape and length of the teeth they cover, close small gaps and even out slightly crooked teeth, without moving them. Because only a minimal amount of enamel is removed, composite is a conservative way to transform a smile.

Porcelain is the superior choice: it lasts 10 to 15 years on average and resists stains. Composite gets you there today for less, and it is the right fit for a single tooth or a smaller change. The ADA’s guide to veneers describes both.
