Why patients choose Deluxe

A Straight Answer on Saving Your Tooth

The first question isn’t which post to use. It’s whether your tooth can be rebuilt predictably.

Restorability checked first

Your personalized consultation, with an exam and x-rays, answers that question before any plan is made.

Fiber, not metal

Bonded fiber posts flex like natural tooth, so less stress reaches the root than with a rigid metal post.

Root canal to crown, one office

Root canal, post, core and crown are all done in-house, never referred out to a specialist.

Numbed and comfortable

Each step is typically done with local anesthesia, so the tooth is numb while it’s rebuilt.

When a Tooth Needs a Post and Core, or Just a Core

A crown needs enough solid tooth to hold on to. After a root canal, decay or a break, the amount of tooth left decides how it’s rebuilt.

Core buildup

When enough healthy tooth remains, tooth-colored core material rebuilds the missing part, with no post, and the crown goes over it.

Post and core

When most of the visible tooth is gone, a post in the root canal holds the core in place so the crown has something solid to sit on.

A crown that fell off

An old crown that came off with its buildup often leaves too little tooth behind. A new post and core can give the new crown a base.

A break near the gum

A tooth broken close to the gumline is checked for enough healthy tooth to grip; when the root is sound, it can often be rebuilt.

The process

From Root Canal to New Crown

  1. 1

    Root canal

    Saves the tooth

The infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned and sealed.

  2. 2

    Fiber post

    When needed

Part of the canal filling makes room for a slim fiber post, bonded to root and tooth.

  3. 3

    Core

    Rebuild

Core material recreates the missing tooth around the post, shaped for the crown.

  4. 4

    Your new crown

    Same day

An all-ceramic crown covers the tooth, checked for fit and bite before you leave.

Post and Core Crowns: Your Questions, Answered

A three-part rebuild for a tooth that had a root canal and lost much of its structure: a slim post bonded inside the root canal, a core that recreates the missing tooth around it, and a crown that covers and protects the whole tooth.

No. A post is used only when too little tooth is left for the crown to hold; otherwise a core buildup alone gives the crown its base.

No. The post’s job is to hold the core in place. What protects the tooth is the healthy structure that remains and the crown that covers it, which is why no more tooth is removed for a post than necessary.

A ferrule is a band of healthy tooth above the gum that the crown wraps around. It spreads the force of biting and keeps the crown and core from rocking loose, so the amount of it is checked before treatment.

With an exam and x-rays. Dr. Godko looks at how much healthy tooth stands above the gum, whether a crack reaches the root, and the bone support. When the tooth can’t be rebuilt predictably, he tells you so and plans an implant or a bridge.

The tooth is typically numbed with local anesthesia first, and a tooth that had a root canal has no living nerve inside, so most patients feel only pressure while the post space is made. Sedation is available for patients who prefer it.

Yes. Your new crown is placed the same day, so the rebuilt tooth is protected before you go home.

Metal posts, prefabricated or custom cast, are far stiffer than the root, so biting forces gather in the root and may lead to a root fracture. Fiber posts flex like natural tooth, bond to the root and the core, are tooth-colored and can be removed if the canal ever needs retreatment. That is why Deluxe uses bonded fiber posts.

It’s priced at your personalized consultation, once Dr. Godko has examined the tooth and its x-rays and knows whether it needs a post or a core alone. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are also available.
