  • Erupted and impacted teeth removed by Dr. Godko himself
  • Nitrous, oral or IV sedation he gives himself, if you prefer
  • Follow-up, and the molar next door cared for, in the same office

Get a baseline

X-rays show every wisdom tooth, including ones still under the gum. If yours have come in straight and stay clean, they can stay, checked at your regular visits.

Where yours sit

Four Ways a Wisdom Tooth Can Come In

The position on your x-ray decides whether the removal is simple or surgical.

Fully erupted

Above the gum like any molar. A simple extraction, much like any other tooth.

Partly erupted

Half through the gum, a trap for food and bacteria. Surgical in most cases.

Under the gum

Covered by gum tissue. A small opening gives access.

In the bone

Fully trapped in the jaw, often angled. Planned with a 3D CT scan.

Why they cause trouble

What a Problem Wisdom Tooth Can Do

Wisdom teeth are the third molars, the last adult teeth to develop. Most jaws have little room left for them, so they often come in crooked, partway or not at all. That is when problems start.

Gum infection

A flap of gum over a partly erupted tooth traps food and bacteria. The gum swells, aches and can taste bad. This infection is called pericoronitis.

Decay

Toothbrushes and floss barely reach the back of the mouth, so wisdom teeth and the molar in front of them decay more easily.

Damage and crowding

A tooth angled forward presses on the root of the molar beside it, traps plaque between the two and can push neighboring teeth out of line.

Gum disease and bone loss

Deep pockets form around a wisdom tooth that can’t be cleaned, and the bone around the neighboring molar can wear away.

Cysts

A tooth that stays trapped in the jaw can develop a fluid-filled sac around it that damages the bone. X-rays catch it early.

Pressure and jaw soreness

Swelling at the back of the jaw makes it stiff and sore to open wide or chew, and the ache can spread to the ear.

3D planning

Every Root Mapped Before Surgery

A flat x-ray shows where a wisdom tooth is. A 3D CT scan shows how close its roots sit to the nerve in the lower jaw or to the sinus above the upper teeth, which is what a careful plan depends on.

Dr. Godko reviews the scan with you, so you see your own teeth and know the plan before the day of surgery.

  • 3D CT scan taken in the office
  • Shows the roots, the nerve and the sinus
  • Surgery planned around what the scan shows

Choose your comfort

Three Levels of Sedation, Given by Dr. Godko

Wisdom teeth typically come out with local anesthesia alone. If you prefer to be more relaxed, Dr. Godko, certified in all three, gives your sedation himself. Learn more about sedation dentistry and IV sedation.

FAQ

Wisdom teeth removal questions, answered

Dr. Maxim Godko removes erupted and impacted wisdom teeth himself, in-house, at both offices, and gives nitrous oxide, oral and IV sedation himself. There is no referral to another office.

An exam and x-rays answer it, with a 3D CT scan when a tooth sits close to the nerve or the sinus. Removal is recommended when a wisdom tooth is impacted and causing pain or swelling, traps food and decays, damages or crowds the teeth beside it, or can’t be kept clean. Dr. Godko shows you what he sees on the images.

Yes, when it has come in straight, you can clean it and it isn’t damaging the tooth next to it. A tooth that feels fine can still hide decay or gum trouble, so it is checked at your regular visits and x-rayed when needed.

Wisdom teeth typically finish developing between the mid-teens and the early twenties. Removal is often simpler while the roots are still forming, before problems start, which is why they are worth checking on x-rays early. Fully formed wisdom teeth can still be removed; the plan follows what the 3D scan shows.

An impacted wisdom tooth is trapped under the gum or in the jawbone, often angled toward the molar in front of it. Removing it is a surgical extraction: a small opening in the gum, and sometimes the tooth is removed in sections.

Yes. Wisdom teeth are typically removed with local anesthesia, which numbs the tooth, gum and bone, so you feel pressure, not the work itself. If you prefer, Dr. Godko adds nitrous oxide for light relaxation, or oral or IV sedation for deeper relaxation, and you stay able to respond with all three.

Most patients are typically back to normal activities within a few days. Swelling builds and then fades, and soft foods come first. You leave with written aftercare instructions, and a follow-up visit is scheduled.

Pain that gets stronger instead of easing, especially with a bad taste, swelling that keeps growing, fever, pus, bleeding that won’t slow with firm pressure, or numbness that doesn’t wear off. Both offices are ready to immediately assist with any concerns. Trouble breathing or swallowing is a reason to call 911.

It is priced at your personalized consultation, based on how many teeth come out, whether they are impacted and the sedation you choose. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are also available.

Dry socket happens when the blood clot in a socket is lost too early, leaving the bone exposed and sore a few days after surgery. Protect the clot: no straws, smoking, vaping or forceful spitting in the first few days. If it happens, Dr. Godko treats it in the office.
