Why patients choose us
Proof First: Your Chart, Your X-Rays, Then Your Decision
Many patients wonder whether a deep cleaning is really needed. At Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics the answer is on your own chart, and you see it before anything is done.
Your pocket chart
Every pocket measured in millimeters, with bleeding marked. Readings deeper than 4 mm with bleeding are the clearest sign of gum disease.
Your x-rays
Digital x-rays show the bone around each root, and any tartar below the gums, on a screen in front of you.
Your plan and cost
Which quadrants need treatment, how many visits, and your share after insurance, all before you agree.
Deep cleanings and periodontal maintenance, all in-house. No referral to a periodontal office.
Schedule AppointmentMeasured at every exam
How deep are your gum pockets?
The space between your gum and tooth is measured in millimeters. Slide the probe to see what each reading means.
Healthy
Healthy pockets measure 1 to 3 mm. A regular cleaning every six months keeps them that way.
Two different jobs
Above the Gumline vs Below It
Regular cleaning
Prophylaxis · above the gumline
- • For healthy gums or mild gingivitis
- • Plaque and tartar removed, then polished and flossed
- • No numbing needed
- • One visit, every six months
Deep cleaning
Scaling & root planing · below the gumline
- • For diagnosed gum disease: deep pockets, bone loss or tartar below the gums
- • Bacteria and deposits removed below the gums; roots smoothed
- • Local anesthesia
- • Typically two visits, then periodontal maintenance
What to expect
Your Deep Cleaning, Start to Finish
From your first measurement to lasting gum health, here is what happens.
Deep cleaning vs regular cleaning
Dr. Godko explains the difference, and what to ask if you’ve been told you need a deep cleaning.
- 1
Measure Exam & x-rays
Pocket depths are measured around every tooth and reviewed with you, alongside digital x-rays that show bone levels.
- 2
Numb Local anesthesia
The area being treated is numbed so you stay comfortable.
- 3
Scale & plane Ultrasonic & hand instruments
Bacteria and hardened deposits are removed from below the gumline, typically one side of the mouth per visit, and the root surfaces are smoothed so gums can reattach.
- 4
Re-evaluate & maintain Every 3–4 months
Pockets are measured again after healing, then periodontal maintenance keeps the disease under control.

FAQ
Deep cleaning questions, answered
No, and you don’t have to take anyone’s word for it. A deep cleaning is recommended only when your exam shows gum disease: pockets deeper than 4 mm, bleeding, tartar below the gums or bone loss on x-rays. At Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics you see your own chart and x-rays before you decide.
Gums that bleed when you brush or floss; red, swollen or tender gums; bad breath that keeps coming back; gums pulling away from the teeth; or teeth that feel loose. Your exam and x-rays confirm it, and Dr. Maxim Godko walks you through what they show.
With ultrasonic and hand instruments, scaling removes plaque and hardened tartar from the tooth and the root surface below the gumline, down to the bottom of each pocket. Root planing then smooths the roots so bacteria have less to cling to and the gums can heal and tighten against the teeth.
The area is numbed with local anesthesia first, so you feel pressure and vibration while you stay comfortable. If you are nervous, nitrous oxide, oral sedation or IV sedation is available, given by Dr. Godko himself.
Typically two visits, with one side of the mouth treated at each. Each visit takes longer than a regular cleaning because every pocket is cleaned to its base; the team tells you the time for your mouth when they book you.
Tender for a few days once the numbness wears off, with some sensitivity to cold as the swelling goes down. Brush gently, keep cleaning between your teeth and follow the aftercare instructions you leave with; both offices are ready to immediately assist with any concerns.
It removes the bacteria and tartar that drive gum disease, so your gums bleed less, the swelling calms, your breath freshens and pockets can shrink as the gums tighten. It protects the bone that holds your teeth in place, and because gum disease has been linked to heart disease and other health problems, treating it supports more than your smile.
Usually once, to bring active gum disease under control. Periodontal maintenance every three to four months then keeps it there, and an area that becomes active again can be treated on its own.
A deep cleaning is priced at your personalized consultation, based on how much of your mouth needs treatment, and you see your cost before you start. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans, including an Adult Perio Plan, are also available.
