Who oral sedation helps

Dental anxiety is common, and it keeps many people from care they need. Oral sedation is a simple way through the fears people mention most.

Moderate dental anxiety

For people who feel their nerves rise before every visit and want to stay calm from the moment they sit down.

Fear of needles

No IV line; the pill does the work.

The sounds and smells

Drowsy and dreamlike, the sound of the drill and the office fade into the background.

Trouble getting numb

You still receive local anesthesia, and being deeply relaxed makes the visit easier to get through.

A lot of work to do

For anyone who would rather finish more of their treatment in one relaxed visit.

A bad past experience

For anyone whose last visit elsewhere still makes them put off the next one.

FAQ

Oral sedation dentistry: your questions, answered

Not fully asleep. You feel drowsy and dreamlike and may doze, yet you can still answer Dr. Godko when he speaks to you, and a gentle nudge wakes you. Many patients remember little of the visit afterward.

Yes. The pill relaxes you; local anesthesia numbs the treatment area. The numbing is given once the sedation has already taken effect.

Dr. Maxim Godko, with you, at your personalized consultation. He weighs your anxiety, the procedure and your health, coordinates with your physician when necessary, then recommends oral sedation, nitrous oxide or IV sedation.

Dr. Godko gives you written instructions for before and after your visit and goes over them with you, so you arrive knowing exactly what to do. Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from the office.

Not on the day of your visit. Oral sedation affects memory and coordination for a while, so a friend or family member drives you home and stays with you as it wears off. Your written instructions tell you when you can drive and get back to work.

Yes, when it’s planned and given by a trained provider. Dr. Godko plans your level with you at your personalized consultation, gives your sedation himself and monitors your heart rate, blood oxygen, blood pressure and breathing throughout your treatment.

Yes. It’s offered to anxious patients for cleanings and checkups, and for root canals, extractions, wisdom teeth, veneers, implants and dental emergencies.

Dr. Godko plans the level with you beforehand, because oral sedation isn’t adjusted moment to moment the way IV sedation is. If you want sedation that can be adjusted as you go, IV sedation offers exactly that.

Oral sedation is priced at your personalized consultation, and you see the cost before anything starts. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are also available.
