How Often Do You Snore?

Behind the noise

What Causes Snoring

When you fall asleep, the soft tissues of your mouth and throat relax. They can narrow the airway and restrict airflow, and the result is snoring, trouble breathing at night and sleep that never feels restful.

Some people are simply more likely to snore: extra weight, a congested nose or deviated septum, a large tongue, tonsils or soft palate, or a small, set-back lower jaw all narrow the space for air. Alcohol close to bedtime and sleeping on your back make it worse.

Snoring can seem harmless, yet loud snoring night after night costs you and the person next to you real sleep, and it can be a sign of sleep apnea, so it is something not to ignore. Read more about snoring from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

FAQ

Because you get the treatment and the right next step in one practice. Dr. Maxim Godko, an 8-Time Top Doctor and NYU College of Dentistry graduate, performs NightLase himself at both offices, and a sleep study referral follows when your risk factors call for one. Backed by 800+ five-star reviews.

It depends on why you snore. Sleeping on your side and avoiding alcohol close to bedtime help some people. Some dentists fit custom oral appliances that hold the lower jaw forward, CPAP is the usual medical treatment for diagnosed sleep apnea, and surgery is reserved for specific problems in the nose or throat. At Deluxe, snoring treatment is NightLase: no incisions, nothing to wear at night and about three sessions.

Snoring is the sound of relaxed tissue vibrating as air passes. Obstructive sleep apnea, the most common form of sleep apnea, is a breathing disorder in which the airway repeatedly narrows or closes during sleep, causing pauses in breathing that pull you out of deep sleep. Most people with sleep apnea snore, but not everyone who snores has sleep apnea.

Waking up gasping or choking, a partner noticing pauses in your breathing, feeling exhausted all day, morning headaches, a very dry or sore throat on waking and getting up many times at night to urinate. Mention any of them at your visit.

A boil-and-bite product is not molded to your teeth and does not come with a check for sleep apnea, so it can quiet the noise while a breathing problem goes unchecked. At Deluxe, your risk is reviewed first, and NightLase treats the snoring with nothing to wear at night.

Only if your risk factors point to sleep apnea. In that case, Deluxe refers you to a sleep study center so a sleep physician can diagnose you before treatment is chosen, and Dr. Godko coordinates with your physician when necessary.

Most patients need about three sessions, and many notice less snoring after the first one.

No. NightLase is a snoring treatment, not a cure for sleep apnea, and it does not replace a diagnosis. Results vary with why you snore. If your risk factors point to sleep apnea, a sleep physician diagnoses it with a sleep study.

Snoring treatment is priced at your personalized consultation, so you know your cost before anything starts. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and our in-house membership plans are available too.
