Right now

What to do in the next few minutes

Choose what’s happening to see the first steps to take on the way in and how to reach the team fastest.

Call 911 or go to the ER for trouble breathing, bleeding that won’t stop, loss of consciousness or a broken jaw or facial bone.

My tooth hurts

  1. 1 Rinse gently with warm salt water (one teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of water).
  2. 2 Hold a cold compress on your cheek, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.
  3. 3 Call to be seen today; digital x-rays will show what’s causing it.

Twelve kinds of dental emergencies

Which dental emergency do you have?

All of them are treated in-house, at both offices. Diagnosis, pain relief and treatment happen at the same visit, with no referral and no second office.

Woman holding her cheek in tooth pain while sipping water, before an emergency dental visit
01

Toothache & tooth pain

Find the cause, end the pain

Throbbing, sharp or constant pain, or pain that keeps you up at night. Relief comes first, then digital x-rays show why.

Seen the same day

What to do
Man checking his front teeth in the bathroom mirror before a broken tooth repair
02

Broken, chipped or cracked tooth

Repaired before it gets worse

Small chips are bonded, larger breaks get a veneer or all-ceramic crown, and a root canal comes first if the nerve is exposed.

Bonded or protected the same day

What to do
Man holding his aching jaw at home, a sign of a tooth abscess that needs emergency care
03

Tooth abscess & swelling

Treated at the source

A swollen face or gum, fever, a bad taste or throbbing pain. The infection is treated with a root canal or extraction, not just antibiotics.

Seen the same day

What to do
Dr. Maxim Godko examining a patient under magnifying loupes during an emergency visit for a knocked-out tooth
04

Knocked-out tooth

The clock is running

Handle it by the crown, try to put it back, or carry it in milk or saliva and come straight in.

Come straight in: time matters

What to do
Gloved hand holding a dental crown over a tooth model, ready to cover a tooth after a lost crown
05

Lost filling or crown

Covered again

When a filling or crown comes out, the inner tooth is exposed. Crowns are cemented back when possible and fillings replaced in-house.

Fixed the same day

What to do
Man resting at home with a cold compress on his cheek after an emergency tooth extraction
06

Emergency tooth extraction

Only when it can’t be saved

Simple and surgical extractions the same day, with sedation available and the replacement planned at the same visit.

Replacement planned the same day

What to do
Woman with an ice pack on her cheek for wisdom tooth pain before an emergency dental visit
07

Wisdom tooth pain

Removed in-house

Pain and swelling at the back of the jaw, often from an impacted wisdom tooth. Panoramic x-rays show where it sits.

Treated as an emergency

What to do
Gloved hands holding a digital x-ray sensor, how the source of an infection is found before an emergency root canal
08

Emergency root canal

Save the tooth, stop the pain

Root canals are done in-house. When time is short, a pulpotomy brings relief right away and the root canal follows.

Relief the same day

What to do
Natural-looking smile with a restored front tooth, the result a cracked tooth repair aims for, anticipated result
09

Cracked tooth repair

Stop the crack spreading

Bonding for shallow cracks, an all-ceramic crown to hold a deeper crack together, and a root canal first when the nerve is involved.

Repaired before it spreads

What to do
Bright, even upper front teeth after veneers, the smile a broken veneer repair restores, anticipated result
10

Broken veneer repair

Chipped, cracked or loose

Small chips are repaired, a veneer that came off can be rebonded when it’s intact, and a cracked one is replaced to match.

Bring the veneer with you

What to do
Model of a dental implant with its crown, the parts checked and repaired in a dental implant emergency
11

Dental implant emergency

Loose or broken, repaired

A loose or broken implant crown, damaged full-arch teeth or pain around an implant, checked with imaging and repaired in-house.

Seen the same day

What to do
Patient smiling at her restored teeth in a hand mirror after same-day smile restoration
12

Same-day smile restoration

Fixed and looking right

The emergency treated and your smile restored at the same visit, from bonding to a new crown placed the same day.

Leave with your smile back

What to do
Waiting room at Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics, where emergency dental patients are seen the same day they call

No referral, no second office. Most emergencies are handled in a single visit.

Your visit

What happens at an emergency appointment?

The American Dental Association’s guide to dental emergencies says to see a dentist right away. Here’s what that visit looks like at Deluxe.

  1. 1

    Call or book online

You’re seen the same day, new patient or not.

  2. 2

    Relief, then answers

Pain relief first, then digital x-rays to show exactly what’s wrong, and the cost before anything starts.

  3. 3

    Treatment in-house

Bonding, a crown, a root canal or an extraction, with sedation if you’d like it.

  4. 4

    Leave with your smile

From bonding to a new crown placed the same day or same-day teeth, your smile is restored before you go.

Where to go

Emergency room or emergency dentist?

The ER is the right call for a handful of situations that affect your breathing or safety. For tooth problems, it can’t do fillings, root canals or extractions, so most people are sent on to a dentist anyway.

Call 911 or go to the ER

  • Trouble breathing or swallowing
  • Bleeding that won’t stop
  • A broken jaw or facial bone
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Swelling toward the eye or throat, or a fever above 101°F

Call us, seen the same day

  • A toothache, even a severe one
  • A broken, chipped or cracked tooth
  • A knocked-out or loosened tooth (come straight in)
  • A lost filling or crown, or a broken veneer
  • Gum swelling or an abscess without breathing trouble
  • A loose or broken implant crown
  • A cut lip, cheek, gum or tongue that has stopped bleeding
  • Something stuck between your teeth that floss can’t remove

Is there a 24-hour emergency dentist?

Many offices claim 24-hour care, but call at 2 a.m. and many of them route you to an answering service that passes your message on in the morning. With us, leave a message at either office any time: emergency messages are handled first when the office opens, you’re called back first thing and seen the same day. One office adds Saturdays 9 am–2 pm and evenings until 7 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

FAQ

Emergency dentist: your questions, answered

Treat it as one if you have severe or lasting tooth pain, swelling in your face or gums, a knocked-out or loose adult tooth, a broken tooth that hurts or has a sharp edge, bleeding that won’t stop, or signs of infection such as a fever, pus or a bad taste. Not sure? Call either office and the team tells you how soon to come in.

At Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics, yes: dental emergencies are seen the same day you call. Call (609) 400-1393 or (609) 303-2005. You don’t need a referral, and you don’t need to be a patient already.

Call the dentist for tooth problems: pain, a broken or knocked-out tooth, a lost crown or filling, or gum swelling. A hospital ER can’t do fillings, root canals or extractions. Go to the ER first for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading toward your eye or throat, bleeding that won’t stop, a broken jaw or loss of consciousness.

Both. Pain relief comes first, then Dr. Godko and the team find the cause with digital x-rays and treat it in-house: bonding, a filling, a crown, a root canal or an extraction. Your smile is restored before you leave.

Saving it is the first goal. Deluxe repairs teeth with bonding, crowns and root canals done in-house, and recommends an extraction only when a tooth is too damaged or infected to restore. If a tooth has to come out, Dr. Godko removes it himself and plans the replacement at the same visit.

Yes. Dr. Godko explains your options first, and nothing starts until you’ve seen the cost. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit: the team checks your benefits and bills your insurance for you.

Yes. You’re seen the same day, insured or not. The in-house Adult membership plan includes two limited or emergency exams a year, and 0% financing through Cherry is available.

Leave a message at either office any time: emergency messages are handled first when the office opens, and you’re seen that day. One office is open Saturdays 9 am–2 pm and until 7 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays; each office’s hours are listed below. For trouble breathing, heavy bleeding or a broken jaw, go to the ER.

Not at Deluxe. Endodontics and oral surgery are in-house service lines, so the office that diagnoses your emergency also treats it. Root canals are done in-house, and Dr. Godko performs every extraction himself.
