Save It in the First Minutes, Then Come Straight In to Have It Reimplanted
First-aid guides stop at the milk. The tooth still has to be put back and splinted by a dentist, and at Deluxe Dr. Godko does it as soon as you arrive. Will the tooth go back in?
- 1 Hold the tooth by the crown, the part you chew with. Don’t touch the root.
- 2 If it’s dirty, rinse it briefly. Don’t scrub it.
- 3 Slide it back into the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth.
- 4 Come straight in to have it splinted.

What to carry a knocked-out tooth in
The root must stay moist, and the liquid makes a difference. The American Dental Association’s guide to dental emergencies gives the same advice.

When you arrive
How Dr. Godko saves a knocked-out tooth
Injuries from sports, falls and accidents affect more than one tooth, so everything is examined together before the tooth is put back and stabilized.
If the tooth can’t be saved, a dental implant, bridge or partial denture is planned at the same visit, with titanium TRI and Neodent GM (Straumann Group) implants, the gold standard.
- Teeth, gums, jaw and lips checked together
- The tooth reimplanted and splinted
- Root canal in-house as it heals
- A same-day implant if it can’t be saved

Knocked-out tooth: your questions, answered
Find the tooth and pick it up by the crown, never the root. Rinse it briefly if it’s dirty, without scrubbing, and try to slide it back into the socket. If it won’t go back, keep it in milk or saliva and come straight to Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics.
Right away: time matters. The sooner the tooth is back in its socket, the better its chance, and the odds drop the longer the root stays out of the mouth. Bring the tooth even if more time has passed.
Yes, if it’s an adult tooth and it slides in easily. Hold it by the crown, ease it into the socket facing the right way and bite gently on a clean cloth to hold it. Don’t force it.
Don’t hold it by the root, scrub it, clean it with soap or alcohol, wrap it in a dry tissue or store it in plain water. Each one damages the root cells the tooth needs to reattach.
Yes. Cold milk, saline or your own saliva keep the root cells alive. Plain water swells and damages them, so use it only for a quick rinse.
Yes, the same day. The tooth has to be checked with x-rays for position and root damage, splinted so it stays put while it heals, and the gums and nearby teeth examined.
For an adult tooth, usually yes: the nerve doesn’t survive being knocked out. The root canal is done in-house as the tooth heals, so it stays in your mouth.
With a single tooth implant, a bridge or a partial denture, planned at the same visit. With same-day dental implants, you leave with your new tooth the same day.
It depends on whether the tooth is saved or replaced, and you see the cost before treatment. If it’s replaced with a single tooth implant, that is starting at $3,199, including the implant, the abutment and the crown. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit, and 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are available.
Either one, the same day. Call on the way: (609) 400-1393 or (609) 303-2005.
