FAQ

Dental anxiety: your questions, answered

Dental anxiety is nervousness or dread about dental visits; dental phobia is a fear strong enough that people avoid care altogether. Both are common, and both are met the same way here: at your pace, with sedation available.

Yes. Mention it when you schedule, along with what worries you most (needles, pain, gagging, how long it’s been). Dr. Godko can then plan the visit around it and discuss sedation before anything is done.

No. Life gets busy, anxiety is real and finances happen. You get an honest assessment of where things stand today and a plan that fits your situation and budget.

It starts with a personalized consultation, not treatment. You talk through what worries you and any past experiences, Dr. Godko examines your teeth, explains what he finds in plain words and recommends sedation if it would help. Nothing is scheduled until you’re ready.

Dental anxiety usually comes from a painful or frightening past visit, a fear of needles, pain or the sound of the drill, a strong gag reflex, embarrassment about your teeth, or the feeling of losing control in the chair. For some people it is part of a broader anxiety.

With nitrous oxide, no: you can drive yourself home once released. With oral or IV sedation, yes: arrange for a companion to bring you to the visit and take you home.

Yes, for many nervous patients. Each step is explained in advance, you can pause whenever you need a moment, and for cleanings a topical numbing gel or a gentler technique is available.

Nitrous oxide suits mild anxiety, oral sedation suits moderate anxiety, and IV sedation suits severe fear or longer care. Dr. Godko recommends the level with you.

Your care is priced at your personalized consultation, before anything starts. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are also available.
