Why patients choose Deluxe
Relief Today, and the Complete Root Canal in the Same Office
Most of what you’ll read about pulpotomy is about children’s baby teeth. For an adult with a throbbing tooth, a pulpotomy is the emergency first step that stops the pain when there’s no time or budget for the full root canal that day, and keeps your natural tooth ready to be saved. At Deluxe, the next step is already planned: the complete root canal and your new crown follow in the same office, with no referral. The ADA explains root canal treatment, the step that follows.
Is it pulpitis?
Signs the Nerve Inside Your Tooth Is Inflamed
Pulpitis is inflammation of the pulp, the soft core of nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue at the center of the tooth. It usually starts with deep decay, a crack or an injury, and these are the signs it gives.
Throbbing pain on its own
Pain that starts without anything touching the tooth, and pulses with your heartbeat.
Lingering hot or cold pain
Sensitivity that keeps aching long after the cold drink or hot food is gone.
Pain that wakes you up
A toothache that keeps you up at night or gets worse when you lie down.
Pain when you bite
A sharp or deep ache when you chew or press on the tooth.
A deep cavity or crack
A large cavity, a broken filling or a cracked tooth that has started to hurt.
Pain that suddenly stops
Severe pain that goes quiet, or a tooth turning darker, can mean the nerve has died. The tooth still needs treatment.
Pulp removed from the chamber only; the roots wait for the root canal
Pulpotomy vs root canal
Two Steps, One Saved Tooth
Pulpotomy
The inflamed pulp is removed from the crown of the tooth only, and the tooth is sealed. The pain stops right away.

FAQ
Pulpotomy: Your Questions, Answered
An emergency treatment for severe tooth pain caused by pulpitis, an inflamed nerve, sometimes called a partial root canal. The inflamed pulp is removed from the crown of the tooth and the tooth is sealed, which brings relief right away. A complete root canal follows within a short time.
No. It is best known as a treatment for baby teeth, often called a “baby root canal,” where it keeps the tooth in place until the adult tooth comes in. In an adult tooth, a pulpotomy is the emergency first step that stops the pain before a complete root canal. Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics performs pulpotomies for adults.
No. A pulpotomy removes the pulp from the crown of the tooth only. A root canal removes it from the roots as well, then cleans, shapes and seals every canal. The pulpotomy stops the pain; the root canal finishes the job.
A pulpectomy goes further than a pulpotomy: it removes all of the pulp, from the crown and every root, and is the first part of a complete root canal.
When time or money is the limiting factor that day. The pulpotomy relieves the pain right away, and the complete root canal is scheduled within a short time.
Yes. A pulpotomy isn’t a final treatment, and every tooth that has one needs the complete root canal within a short time, done at Deluxe in the same office.
Right away for most patients, because the inflamed tissue causing the pressure is removed. Some soreness or tenderness when you bite can last a few days.
The tooth is fully numbed first. If you’re anxious, nitrous oxide, oral sedation or IV sedation is available, with Dr. Godko certified in all three.
A pulpotomy is priced at your personalized consultation, once Dr. Godko has examined the tooth. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are available too.
