Who oral sedation helps
Dental anxiety is common, and it keeps many people from care they need. Oral sedation is a simple way through the fears people mention most.
Moderate dental anxiety
For people who feel their nerves rise before every visit and want to stay calm from the moment they sit down.
Fear of needles
No IV line; the pill does the work.
The sounds and smells
Drowsy and dreamlike, the sound of the drill and the office fade into the background.
Trouble getting numb
You still receive local anesthesia, and being deeply relaxed makes the visit easier to get through.
A lot of work to do
For anyone who would rather finish more of their treatment in one relaxed visit.
A bad past experience
For anyone whose last visit elsewhere still makes them put off the next one.

FAQ
Oral sedation dentistry in Skillman, NJ: your questions, answered
Yes. At our Skillman, NJ office it’s Dr. Maxim Godko: certified in oral, nitrous oxide and IV sedation, he prescribes your sedative pill himself, and he keeps a current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Dr. Godko gives your sedation himself and monitors your heart rate, blood oxygen, blood pressure and breathing throughout your treatment. Oral sedation is safe when it’s planned and given by a trained provider, and he plans your level with you at your personalized consultation.
Not fully asleep. You feel drowsy and dreamlike and may doze, yet you can still answer Dr. Godko when he speaks to you, and a gentle nudge wakes you. Many patients remember little of the visit afterward.
Dr. Godko decides with you at your personalized consultation, weighing your anxiety, the procedure and your health, and he coordinates with your physician when necessary. As a rule of thumb, nitrous oxide suits mild anxiety and short visits, oral sedation suits moderate anxiety or several treatments at once, and IV sedation suits severe anxiety or long, complex care. He gives all three at the Skillman, NJ office.
There are two to plan around. You stay drowsy for the rest of the day, so you don’t drive, and a friend or family member takes you home and stays with you. And oral sedation isn’t adjusted moment to moment the way IV sedation is, so Dr. Godko plans the level with you beforehand. If you want sedation that can be adjusted as you go, IV sedation offers exactly that; with nitrous oxide(laughing gas) you stay fully aware and can drive yourself afterward.
Oral sedation is priced at your personalized consultation, and you see the cost before anything starts. 0% financing through Cherry and in-house membership plans are also available.
Yes. Whether a plan pays toward sedation depends on the plan and on the treatment it’s used for, so your benefits are checked before your visit. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit.
Dr. Godko gives you written instructions for before and after your visit and goes over them with you, so you arrive knowing exactly what to do. Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from the office.
No: plan on the rest of the day at home. Oral sedation affects memory and coordination for a while, so a friend or family member drives you home and stays with you as it wears off. Your written instructions tell you when you can drive and get back to work.
Without traffic, about 8 minutes to Kingston, NJ on County Route 518, about 10 minutes to Princeton, NJ on Route 206 and about 13 minutes to Hopewell, NJ on County Route 518. Your companion drives, and you rest at home for the rest of the day.
