You are typically back to normal activities within a few days. Some swelling and soreness is normal at first; cold compresses and rest help. You can eat and drink the same day, and Dr. Godko gives you the instructions before and after: soft foods like soups, yogurt, smoothies and mashed potatoes at first, then fork-tender foods like fish, pasta and eggs. Skip hard, crunchy and chewy foods until your final arch is in; then the foods you missed come back. You leave with aftercare instructions and a scheduled follow-up visit, and both offices are ready to immediately assist with any concerns.

Brush gently twice a day and rinse beneath the arch with a water flosser, following your aftercare instructions. The gums around new implants need daily care from day one, and in-house periodontal maintenance keeps them healthy for the long run.
