Root Canal Today, In-House. No Endodontist Referral, New Crown the Same Day.

Elsewhere, a tooth that needs a root canal can mean a first visit, a referral to an endodontist, a separate consultation and fee, days of throbbing while you wait, and a trip back for the crown.

At Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics, endodontics is one of our own service lines. The office that diagnoses the tooth treats it, with digital x-rays, and your new crown is placed the same day. Read the ADA’s overview of root canal treatment.

Two paths to relief

Finish It Today, or Get Relief Today and Finish Soon

Both start the same day. The right one depends on the tooth, your schedule and your budget, and the team talks it through with you first.

Most root canals are finished in one visit: the tooth is cleaned, sealed and crowned before you leave.

  1. Step1

    Numb and confirm

Dr. Godko numbs the area first and confirms with digital x-rays that the nerve is the source.

  2. Step2

    Clean it out

He removes the inflamed or infected pulp, then cleans, disinfects and shapes the canals.

  3. Step3

    Seal it

He seals the canals against reinfection and rebuilds the core of the tooth.

  4. Step4

    Crown it

Your new crown is placed the same day, protecting the treated tooth before you leave.

What a root canal treats

What Turns a Toothache Into a Root Canal Emergency

Inside every tooth is the pulp: the nerve and blood vessels that run from the crown down through the root canals. When bacteria reach it, the pulp swells inside a space with nowhere to expand. That pressure is the throbbing you feel.

A root canal removes the inflamed or infected pulp, cleans and disinfects the canals, and seals them. The pressure is gone, the infection has nowhere to live, and you keep your natural tooth.

Not every root canal is an emergency. Severe or throbbing pain, swelling, a fever or a bump on the gum means it is: the infection is active and can spread.

How bacteria reach the pulp

  • Deep decay. A cavity left to grow reaches the pulp and infects it.
  • A crack or fracture. Even a hairline crack can let bacteria into the nerve.
  • A blow to the tooth. Trauma can injure the nerve without any visible chip.
  • Grinding and clenching. Years of pressure weaken the tooth and inflame the pulp.
  • Repeated dental work. A tooth that has had several large fillings or a leaking crown is more likely to become inflamed.

Warning signs

Signs the Nerve Inside Your Tooth Is in Trouble

Each of these can point to an inflamed or infected pulp. Digital x-rays confirm it, because damage inside the root often can’t be seen.

Throbbing that won’t stop

A deep, pulsing toothache that keeps coming back.

Lingering sensitivity

Pain with hot or cold that lasts after the food or drink is gone.

Tender when you bite

Chewing or biting down on that side hurts.

Worse when lying down

More blood flow to the head at night puts extra pressure on an inflamed nerve.

Swelling or a bad taste

A swollen gum or face, or a foul taste, can signal an abscess.

After a knock to the tooth

An injury can damage the pulp even when no crack is visible.

A darkening tooth

A tooth turning gray or darker than its neighbors can mean the nerve inside is dying.

A bump on the gum

A small pimple near the root is an abscess draining through the bone.

A deep cavity or crack

Decay or a crack that reaches the pulp lets bacteria inside the tooth.

Head to the ER first for trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that won’t stop, or swelling spreading toward the eye or throat. Otherwise, call either office to be seen the same day.

Why timing matters

What Happens if a Root Canal Is Put Off

An inflamed or infected pulp won’t heal on its own, and every stage makes the tooth harder to save.

01

Inflamed nerve

Decay, a crack or an injury lets bacteria reach the pulp.

02

Infection

Without treatment, the inflamed pulp can become infected and painful.

03

Abscess

A pocket of infection forms, and it needs dental treatment to clear.

04

Spread

Left alone, it can reach the jaw, neck or bloodstream, which is why it’s treated the same day.

Nothing like its reputation

Today’s Root Canal Feels Much Like a Filling

Root canals have an old reputation they no longer deserve. With modern anesthesia it feels much like a filling, and it ends the pain the infected nerve was causing. The pulp is removed, and the canals are cleaned, shaped and sealed against reinfection.

When too little tooth is left to hold a crown, a fiber post placed in the canal gives it support. About fiber posts and crowns.

  • Local anesthesia, with nitrous, oral or IV sedation if you prefer
  • Done in-house, with no endodontist referral
  • Digital x-rays to confirm the cause
  • Your new crown placed the same day

FAQ

Emergency root canal in Lawrenceville, NJ: your questions, answered

Yes. Call (609) 400-1393 or (609) 303-2005 and you’re seen the same day at 100 Federal City Rd, Suite 104B, in Lawrence Township. Dr. Godko confirms with digital x-rays that the nerve is the source and treats it at that visit: most root canals are finished in one visit, and your new crown is placed the same day.

You can book with us directly, with no referral. Endodontics is one of Deluxe Dentistry & Esthetics’ own service lines, so the office that diagnoses the tooth treats it, and the crown, any fiber post and the sedation happen in the same office, from your first call to the crown.

No. A hospital emergency room can’t perform dental procedures; it can prescribe antibiotics and refer you to a dentist. Go to the ER or call 911 first for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling near the eye or spreading down the neck, or a high fever. For the tooth itself, call us: the root canal or extraction that treats the source happens here, the same day.

Both happen at this office. Once the x-rays confirm the nerve is the source, most root canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed in that one visit. When your time or budget is tight, a pulpotomy removes the inflamed tissue and brings relief right away, and the complete root canal follows within a short time. A molar with complex canals or heavy infection sometimes needs a second visit, and you leave out of pain either way.

The price depends on the tooth and what it needs, and you know the full cost before you agree to anything. With insurance, we work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. Without it, our in-house membership plans and 0% financing through Cherry are available. When budget is tight, a pulpotomy relieves the pain today and the full root canal follows soon after.

Yes. The hours are Monday 9 am–5:30 pm, Tuesday 9 am–5 pm, Wednesday 9:30 am–7 pm, Thursday 9 am–7 pm, Friday 9 am–5 pm and Saturday 9 am–2 pm. A tooth that flares up at the end of the week doesn’t have to wait until Monday, and pain that builds through a workday can be seen on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Without traffic, about 16 minutes from Washington Crossing, NJ by Route 31, about 19 minutes from Plainsboro, NJ and about 24 minutes from East Windsor, NJ by Route 1 and I-295, to 100 Federal City Rd in Lawrence Township.

Yes. Your tooth is numbed completely before treatment starts, and if you want help relaxing, Dr. Godko gives nitrous oxide, oral sedation or IV sedation (in which you can still respond) himself; he is certified in all three. Tell the team you’re nervous when you call, and your visit is paced around you.

Yes, if you had local anesthesia only: you can drive yourself and return to work that day. Wait to eat until the numbness wears off, so you don’t bite your cheek or tongue, then start with softer foods on the other side for the first day. Brush and floss the treated tooth from the first day, gently around the gum while it’s tender. After oral or IV sedation, someone drives you home and you rest for the day.

When the tooth can be restored, a root canal saves it: the infection is removed and a crown protects your natural tooth. If the x-rays show it can’t be restored, you hear why and see your options and their costs before anything is decided, and the choice stays yours.

Same-day smile restoration

We don’t just stop the emergency. You leave with your smile restored.

With emergency, general, cosmetic and implant care all in-house, the problem is resolved and your smile restored at the same visit whenever possible.
