Fix the cause
Home Remedies Buy Time. A Same-Day Visit Removes the Cause.
Every remedy list stops at the same place: a rinse and a cold compress. They make the wait easier, but none of them removes decay, closes a crack or clears an infection. That takes a dentist, and at Deluxe it happens the same day you call.
Until you’re seen
- 1 Warm salt-water rinse A teaspoon in eight ounces; keeps the area clean.
- 2 Gentle flossing Clears food trapped against the gum.
- 3 Cold compress 20 minutes on, 20 off, on the outside of your cheek.
- 4 Head raised at night Less pressure on an inflamed nerve.
- 5 Soft, lukewarm food Chew on the other side; skip very hot, cold, sugary or hard foods.
Go to the ER if tooth pain comes with trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading toward your eye or neck, or bleeding that won’t stop.
At Deluxe, the same day
- Pain relief first, the moment you sit down
- Digital x-rays show exactly what’s causing it
- Filling, crown, root canal or extraction, in-house
- Your smile restored before you leave, whenever possible
Tooth pain guide
What your tooth pain is telling you
Find the pain that sounds like yours to see what it usually points to and what to do. An exam confirms the cause. The American Dental Association’s guide to dental emergencies says severe tooth pain is a reason to call your dentist right away.
A quick twinge with hot or cold that fades in seconds
Usually points to Worn enamel, an exposed root or a small cavity
What to do Book a visit soon. It’s often treated with a filling or in-office desensitizing.
Tooth sensitivity treatmentSensitivity after a new filling or crown
Usually points to Normal settling, or a filling that sits a little high
What to do It usually fades within days or weeks. If it gets worse or your bite feels off, call either office: both are ready to immediately assist with any concerns.
Tooth-colored fillingsSharp pain when you bite down
Usually points to A crack, decay, a loose filling or an infection at the root
What to do Chew on the other side and come in soon: a crack spreads with every bite.
Cracked tooth repairPain that lingers after hot or cold, or starts on its own
Usually points to An inflamed or dying nerve
Same day Come in the same day. A root canal can stop the pain and save the tooth.
Emergency root canalConstant, throbbing pain with gum swelling or a bad taste
Usually points to An abscess at the root
Same day Call today. Swelling toward the eye or throat, a fever or trouble swallowing means the ER.
Tooth abscess treatmentPain and swelling at the back of the jaw
Usually points to An impacted or partly erupted wisdom tooth
What to do Call to be seen the same day; it’s removed in-house when needed.
Wisdom tooth painAn ache with bleeding or receding gums
Usually points to Gum disease with bone loss around the root
What to do Book a visit: a deep cleaning below the gumline treats it.
Gum disease treatmentA dull ache in several upper teeth
Usually points to Sinus pressure, or grinding
What to do An exam and x-rays show whether a tooth is involved.
Dental examsAn ache in the jaw, ear, temple or neck
Usually points to Grinding, clenching or a jaw-joint (TMJ) problem; sometimes a tooth
What to do An exam finds the source. A custom nightguard protects teeth from grinding.

Night pain
Why toothaches flare up at night
Many toothaches get worse once you lie down. Lying flat increases blood flow to your head and the pressure on an irritated nerve, and at night there’s less to take your mind off it.
If the pain keeps you awake, call either office as soon as it opens to be seen that day.
- More blood flows to your head when you lie down
- That adds pressure on an inflamed nerve
- Fewer distractions make pain feel stronger
- An extra pillow helps you rest

FAQ
Tooth pain in Lawrenceville, NJ: your questions, answered
Yes. Call (609) 400-1393 or (609) 303-2005 and you’re seen the same day, new patient or not, with no referral, at 100 Federal City Rd, Suite 104B, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. The office is open until 7 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.
That day. Leave a message any time: emergency messages are handled first when the office opens, you’re called back first thing and seen that day, Saturdays included. Go to the ER first for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading toward your eye or neck, or bleeding that won’t stop.
Both. Pain relief comes first, then Dr. Godko examines the tooth and takes digital x-rays, and you hear the cause, your options and the cost. Treatment starts at that visit, in-house: a filling, a crown, a root canal or an extraction. Root canals are done in-house, and Dr. Godko performs every extraction himself.
Saving it comes first. A cavity that hasn’t reached the nerve gets a filling, an inflamed or infected nerve gets a root canal, and a weakened tooth gets a crown. An extraction is recommended only when a tooth is too damaged or infected to restore, and its replacement is planned at the same visit.
Nothing at home removes the cause, but a few steps make the wait easier: rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to clear trapped food, hold a cold compress on your cheek, 20 minutes on and 20 off, and keep your head raised when you lie down. Then call to be seen the same day.
It’s a medication schedule passed around online. Questions about medicine belong with your physician or pharmacist, who know your health history. No schedule fixes the tooth itself: that takes a visit, where pain relief comes first and the cause is found and treated the same day you call.
It can, when the nerve inside dies, but the decay and the infection keep going, and an infection at the root can turn into an abscess. Less pain doesn’t mean the problem is gone. A tooth that has gone quiet still needs an exam and x-rays, and it can often still be saved with a root canal.
The cost depends on whether the extraction is simple or surgical and on what your plan covers, and you see it before any treatment starts. We accept PPO plans and most carriers, including CIGNA, MetLife, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental and GEHA Connection Dental. No Medicaid, DMO or HMO plans accepted. We work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit. Without insurance, the in-house Adult membership plan includes two limited or emergency exams a year, and 0% financing through Cherry is available.
Without traffic, about 15 minutes from Titusville, NJ by Route 29 and I-295, about 18 minutes from West Windsor, NJ by Route 1 and I-295 and about 19 minutes from Hopewell, NJ by Route 206 and I-295. Phone ahead and say where the tooth hurts, so the team can set your visit.
Don’t wait with severe or throbbing pain, pain that lasts more than a day or two, pain that wakes you up or stops you eating, or any toothache with swelling, a fever, pus or a bad taste. Call and you’re seen that day. A brief twinge with cold that fades in seconds can wait for a regular visit soon.
