Fix the cause

Home Remedies Buy Time. A Same-Day Visit Removes the Cause.

Every remedy list stops at the same place: a rinse and a cold compress. They make the wait easier, but none of them removes decay, closes a crack or clears an infection. That takes a dentist, and at Deluxe it happens the same day you call.

Until you’re seen

  1. 1 Warm salt-water rinse A teaspoon in eight ounces; keeps the area clean.
  2. 2 Gentle flossing Clears food trapped against the gum.
  3. 3 Cold compress 20 minutes on, 20 off, on the outside of your cheek.
  4. 4 Head raised at night Less pressure on an inflamed nerve.
  5. 5 Soft, lukewarm food Chew on the other side; skip very hot, cold, sugary or hard foods.

Go to the ER if tooth pain comes with trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading toward your eye or neck, or bleeding that won’t stop.

At Deluxe, the same day

  • Pain relief first, the moment you sit down
  • Digital x-rays show exactly what’s causing it
  • Filling, crown, root canal or extraction, in-house
  • Your smile restored before you leave, whenever possible

What your tooth pain is telling you

Find the pain that sounds like yours to see what it usually points to and what to do. An exam confirms the cause. The American Dental Association’s guide to dental emergencies says severe tooth pain is a reason to call your dentist right away.

1

A quick twinge with hot or cold that fades in seconds

Usually points to Worn enamel, an exposed root or a small cavity

What to do Book a visit soon. It’s often treated with a filling or in-office desensitizing.

2

Sensitivity after a new filling or crown

Usually points to Normal settling, or a filling that sits a little high

What to do It usually fades within days or weeks. If it gets worse or your bite feels off, call either office: both are ready to immediately assist with any concerns.

Tooth-colored fillings
3

Sharp pain when you bite down

Cracked tooth repair
4

Pain that lingers after hot or cold, or starts on its own

Usually points to An inflamed or dying nerve

Same day Come in the same day. A root canal can stop the pain and save the tooth.

Night pain

Why toothaches flare up at night

Many toothaches get worse once you lie down. Lying flat increases blood flow to your head and the pressure on an irritated nerve, and at night there’s less to take your mind off it.

If the pain keeps you awake, call either office as soon as it opens to be seen that day.

  • More blood flows to your head when you lie down
  • That adds pressure on an inflamed nerve
  • Fewer distractions make pain feel stronger
  • An extra pillow helps you rest

FAQ

Tooth pain in Skillman, NJ: your questions, answered

Yes. Call (609) 303-2005 or (609) 400-1393 and you’re seen the same day, new patient or not, with no referral. Relief comes first at our Skillman, NJ office, 40 Nevius Blvd, Suite 150, in the Montgomery Promenade.

To our Skillman, NJ office, about 10 minutes from Princeton, NJ on Route 206 without traffic, where severe tooth pain is seen the same day you call and treated in-house. Go to the ER first for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading toward your eye or neck, or bleeding that won’t stop.

An ER can check for danger signs and manage pain for a short time, but it can’t do fillings, root canals or extractions, so most people leave with a referral to a dentist. For the tooth itself, a dentist finds the cause on digital x-rays and treats it, the same day at Deluxe.

Yes. Root canals are done in-house, the same day for emergencies, and Dr. Godko performs every extraction himself, so the office that finds the cause also treats it. When time is short, a pulpotomy brings relief right away and the root canal follows.

It depends on whether the extraction is simple or surgical and on your plan, and you see the cost before anything starts. Saving the tooth comes first; if it has to come out, Dr. Godko removes it himself and plans the replacement at the same visit.

The tooth matters: a front tooth with one canal is simpler than a molar with three or four, and a back tooth usually needs a crown afterward to protect it. You see the cost of each step before anything starts, and we work with your insurance to ensure you receive the maximum benefit.

No. You see what Dr. Godko found on the exam and x-rays, hear the tooth-saving option first and the cost of each choice, and decide. Treatment starts only when you say yes.
